Stop Trying in Your Relationship

Your relationship should feel supported and safe. You should feel like you have a best friend, and you should want to do life together with them. If you aren’t about that, chances are you might be in the wrong relationship. It can be hard to know when you should stop trying with your partner because it brings in a lot of emotions.

If you’ve put a lot of time and effort into your relationship, walking away can be hard. Ending things at the right time though can help you to not feel resentful or bitter.

Is Your Relationship Over?

Life doesn’t always go the way that you want it to, and it can be hard to look at your relationship from different points of view. When you date someone, you want someone that respects you and that you can trust. If you don’t have this, then you might want to stop trying.

If you get into a place where you are constantly pointing fingers and lashing out at your partner, this can show that you are no longer connected with them and that might be a sign to walk out of the relationship for good.

What Do You Really Want?

Before you stop your relationship and walk away, you need to look at your life. What kind of goals and values do you have? What do you want and need from your relationship? The relationship will always have ups and downs and sometimes you have to tell your partner what you need over and over again.

But if you don’t feel like you are free to tell your partner what you want and need, chances are the relationship might already be over. Let go of this person and allow yourself to move on.

Should You Walk Away?

How can you tell that it’s time to walk away from a relationship? These kinds of decisions can be hard, and you might still love your partner but feel that you can’t be together. Sometimes relationships are confusing and there are things that you need to look for before you ever make the move to leave!

  • Your Needs Aren’t Being Met

Everyone has needs but if you have a partner that doesn’t care about your needs then this can be a sign that the relationship is more than over. If you feel that they no longer value, you or care about you then it might be time to move on.

Talk to your partner and tell them what you want and need and if they have no desire to make the changes, move forward and find someone else.

  • Fear

Do you feel fearful about talking to your partner about the problems you have in the relationship? Of course, you probably don’t tell your partner everything but if there is a loss of trust and if there is fear, it will make you anxious and that is not a good life.

  • Abuse or Trauma

If there is abuse in the relationship you need to leave. You aren’t the one that is causing the abuse and if you feel that you are in an unsafe situation you need to make a plan to get out. Talk to a professional or have a friend or family help you.

  • Changing Them

Maybe you keep thinking that you can change your partner and make them who you want them to be. This could be a problem for you because people don’t change just because you want them to. The behavior might mean that you have problems in your relationship such as them trying to control you or they want you to do everything the way that they want it.

  • Lack of Intimacy

You can’t bring intimacy into a relationship once it’s gone. If you have no passion for each other and the emotional connection isn’t there, you will have a hard time making your relationship work.

  • Emotional Disconnection

Another sign that it might be time to walk away is that you might have an emotional disconnect with your partner. You have a hard time expressing what you are thinking or what you are feeling with them. This can happen in abusi9ve relationships, or it can happen if your partner constantly ignores you when you try and tell him something.

When he doesn’t want to try anymore in the relationship, there is probably no loyalty there and it is time to move forward.

  • Lack of Trust and Respect

Your partner and you should respect and trust each other. When one stops trying in the relationship it can bring about a lack of respect. If there is not good communication, then there won’t be healthy respect, and this will cause a lack of trust.

Solving problems together should be something that you do and if this does not happen then you will be able to get a glimpse at what your future might look like.

  • Relationship Imbalances

You and your partner should be equal. You should share the work, share the chores, share the decision making and everything in between. Discuss what you want and need in the relationship and if you start to resent them, it might be time to break up.

  • No Commitment

Another sign that your relationship might be over is if they don’t want to commit to you. There should always be change and improvement in a relationship and if this isn’t happening then chances are the relationship is probably over.

Learn to share your dreams with each other and if that isn’t happening and neither of you are listening to each other, it might be time to stop trying.

  • Feeling Guilty

Doubting and guilt can happen when a relationship is struggling. If you feel that you are doubting your partner or your relationship or if you feel guilty for what is going on, it might be a sign that it’s over. Listen to what your gut feeling is telling you.

  • Stopping Your Relationship

When it is time to quit your relationship, you probably know it before it gets to that point. Talk about what you need to do and talk about how you no longer feel connected or valued. This can be stressful but being in an unhealthy relationship is worse.

If you have needs that aren’t being met and if your emotions are out of whack because of your relationship, this is unhealthy for both you and your partner.

Final Thoughts

There are signs that your relationship might be over and if it is then you will see that your goals, values and your needs are probably no longer on the same line. If you find yourself in this situation, know that you need to respect yourself and your partner enough to move on and to start life new without each other.
